National Emergency Life Support Skill Lab
Two-Day NELS Training Programme Successfully Concludes at GMC Amritsar Skill Lab on 17th September, 2026
A two-day specialized training programme under the National Emergency Life Support (NELS) scheme, an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, was successfully organized at the newly established Skill Lab, Government Medical College (GMC), Amritsar.
The inaugural cohort brought together 24 staff nurses representing 23 districts across Punjab to be trained as master trainers. Designed to strengthen critical and emergency healthcare delivery during the crucial "golden hour," the workshop provided intensive, hands-on simulation training on advanced manikins. The curriculum covered core emergency modules, including:
Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) utilization.
Pediatric and adult airway management, resuscitation, and bag-valve-mask ventilation.
Triage protocols and emergency management for acute trauma, choking, stroke, chest pain, and respiratory distress.
Led under the guidance of Dr. Rajiv Devgan (Director-Principal, GMC Amritsar) and Dr. Mridu Gupta (Nodal Officer for NELS & Head, Department of Physiology), the sessions were conducted by specialist faculty from the Department of Anaesthesia and allied departments.
The programme concluded with a formal valedictory session featuring a ceremonial lamp lighting and the distribution of completion certificates to all participants. These certified master trainers will now cascade standardized emergency and life-support care protocols across district hospitals and intensive care units throughout the state.
